Corporate Picnic Ideas

Corporate picnics are a fun way to show your employees that you care. For the employees, it is a great way to socialize with co-workers that they may not have a chance to socialize with at work and the picnic is the perfect way to forge bonds between management and employees that will eventually help everyone be more productive at work.
The best thing about corporate picnics however, is the fact that they are a fun way to relax and spend quality time with co-workers having a little fun and eating some outstanding food. If you are the one in charge of this year’s picnic, here are some clever little ideas on picnic themes to help make the event fun and ensure that everyone has the time of their life.
The Active Picnic
Are there a lot of really competitive, active or physically fit employees that will be attending the picnic? If so, one or more of these active themes may just be the one for you.
- Sports: Men and women alike love sports and what better way to bring a large group together than having them compete in a good game of softball, kickball or flag football? When it comes to serving food, you can opt for sports themed food such as hamburgers, hotdogs and even nachos or popcorn. Be sure to include some vegetarian foods for those that do not eat meat.
- Carnival: If sports is not your thing, then how about a carnival themed picnic? Even if you do not have the large rides, you should be able to speak to local bounce house owners about renting a water dunk booth or setting up carnival type games where attendees can participate and compete against one another. Be sure to have small prizes on hand for the winners but offer prizes to all that attend as well. Serve foods that you would find at a carnival including hot dogs, cotton candy, funnel cakes and popcorn. A carnival themed picnic will bring out the kid in everyone.
The International Picnic
Does your company have employees that work in other countries or do you have a very diverse team with people from many cultures working together? International themed picnics give a chance to share foods, games and other traditions from countries around the world and this can really help workers feel closer to co-workers that they may have never spoken to before.
- Foods from Around the World
What could be better than a large buffet lined with a great selection of foods from as many countries as possible? Tacos or a beefless taco salad from Mexico, pasta from Italy, desserts from France and even a traditional hamburger from the U.S.! If you would rather not include food from so many global locations, you could try to focus on one country and include dishes as well as fun and games that are played there.
Kid Friendly Picnics
In most companies, employees have children and a great way to really make your employees feel at home with their job is to include their children at the corporate picnic. To do this, you need to make sure the entire picnic is kid friendly yet still plenty of fun for all of the adults whether they have kids or not. Quite honestly, there is always a little kid dying to get out in even the sternest of adults.
- Animal Fun
While you will not want to have many real animals at all, if any, incorporating some may be a great way to include fun for everyone. Speak to a local stable and offer pony rides for the little ones or have a small petting zoo with a member of a local wildlife organization on hand to bring out some snakes, lizards, birds or other small animals. Kids as well as adults usually enjoy seeing, and even petting animals. Offer fun foods that everyone can enjoy including cotton candy, popcorn, peanuts, smoothies, fruits, finger sandwiches and other finger foods that are ready to grab and eat without dinnerware.
Adults Only Picnics
If kid friendly is something that you would prefer to stay away from, how about an adult only picnic where the adults can really unwind and have some fun away from the office.
- Dancing The Night Away
Hire a DJ or bring some great dance tunes and crank up the music all evening long to allow your team to really unwind and have a little fun on the dancefloor. Be sure to include music from several genres so that everyone will have a chance to enjoy what they are listening to. Have employees enter dance contests to see who can do the latest moves, dance the longest or dance the silliest and award prizes to those that win. Offer foods that they can grab and eat while dancing including cheeses, fruits and breadsticks but also have dinner foods that they can enjoy while sitting at the table such as steak or chicken, a salad and even a great bottle of wine would be a nice touch. If you serve alcohol, be prepared to pay for cab rides home and make sure that you set limits on how many drinks your guests can have.
